Currently, MP3 is the most used audio file format. So, the deveopment of the MP3 format was a very critical event. At that time, computers provided very less storage space. So, this format quickly became the standard for storing music and rose above the other existing ones. It could condense audio to a fraction of the size of other common audio file types at the time (about 1/10 the size of an uncompressed.WAV or.AIF file). MPEG released the MP3 format in 1993, after developing it in the early 1990s. However, because the files contain more data, they take up more storage space. AIFF files often include higher-quality audio than equivalent MP3 files since their data is not compressed. AIFF files, unlike.MP3 and many other common audio files, are uncompressed. Despite minor differences in storage mechanism and little difference in quality, several varieties of AIFF files are frequently stored under the same file extension. Professional musicians who value the high quality of the files and can handle the hefty storage requirements are the most common consumers of AIFF files. AIFF files are widely seen on MAC OS machines. Loop information and sound samples are both possible in AIFF files. AIFF files are uncompressed (lossless) and substantially larger than the popular MP3 files, which are compressed and lossy. Audio recordings, podcasts, soundtracks, sermons, audiobooks, lectures, etc are all widely stored as MP3 files.Īpple used Electronic Art's Interchange File Format to produce it in 1988. It was produced by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) (MP3). Files ending in.AIFC are known as AIF files (if they are compressed).Īn MP3 File format is a compressed audio file that uses "Layer 3" audio compression. AIFF files can also be saved in the format. It includes high-resolution audio that has been preserved in an uncompressed, lossless format. The AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) extension is a sound data storage standard for a variety of electronic audio devices. Causes increase in music piracy due to greater availability and ease of use. Incompatible with high-definition audio (sampling rates higher than 48kHz). The maximum bitrate (320kbps) isn't always enough. There are no multichannel implementations available yet. Performance and efficiency are lower than current codecs. It provides support to multichannel files. Anyone can put their own version together with the available demo sources. An ISO standard that is part of the MPEG specifications. Can be decoded pretty fast, and in a more sophisticated manner. Practically all hardware audio players and gadgets support it. MPEG-1 Audio Layer III or MPEG-2 Audio Layer IIIĪccepted extensively by all. Details of AIFF and MP3 file format Format

Ava Elliot and Vernon are enjoying their date and talking about Lizzie when Takeshi knocks on the window telling them they need to leave. Takeshi calls Poe and he gives Takeshi the address to the restaurant. Miriam picks him up and they head to her island. Takeshi walks out and Reileen sends Leung after him. Reileen shows Takeshi a photo of their mom and tells him what she went through. Takeshi tells her he is backing out and he will head to Miriam Bancroft's island then he will cast off to Harlan's World. Reileen tells Takeshi that Mary Lou was cheap labor and she has an empire that spans the Settled Worlds. He tells Reileen he knows she faked the codes. Takeshi confronts Reileen and offers Mary Lou Henchy's Cortical Stack as a bargaining chip. Takeshi races over there but it is too late and he finds their dead bodies. They never see him coming and he kills Ortega's nephews. Xalbador and Alazne answer the door but he stabs them. Takeshi asks Reileen where Ortega is and she tells Takeshi that because Ortega killed her clones she has sent Mister Leung to kill Ortega's family.Īcross town, Leung is doing just that. In Virtual reality, Poe talks to Lizzie Elliot and has doubts about the plan. Takeshi gives her a bath, but turns out this is not Ortega Reileen Kawahara is impersonating her and we know the real Ortega was kidnapped in the last episode. In the lobby of The Raven, Takeshi talks to Poe about how Laurens Bancroft died just as Kristin Ortega comes through the door. Takeshi Kovacs is playing rock paper scissors at the start of the episode. "But nobody knows that the second season or what the continuation would be, but if they follow the narrative of the books, then it would be a new cast for every one, maybe with a couple of holdovers. After a devastating rampage, Kovacs and his allies hatch a bold-and very risky-scheme to infiltrate Head in the Clouds. It would be more of an anthology," he told Rotten Tomatoes. "If you look at the books, each book takes place in a completely different universe, so if the rights to the other books and then them, to follow them, it would be basically a new cast for every season. Related: Here's what to expect in Altered Carbon season 2, according to the books If the show wants to continue to adapt his books, there are two other of Richard K Morgan's novels already written by Morgan about Kovacs – Broken Angels and Woken Furies.īut Kinnaman thinks sticking closely to the novels could be the direction of the show going forward. "I think once you start 'prequelling' you hollow out the initial inspiration and you end up in a place where you've stripmined everything about that character and it ceases to have the mystery." "I always think prequels are a bad idea," he said. Morgan previously chatted about his aversion to making future seasons of the show a prequel. Do I need to shoot you, because I will shoot you.' It's a wonderful character to live in." Trepp is like, 'You're not helping me, get on, because I got other things to do. A lot of time with women in these positions, they are there to be the voice of reason or the lovely sidekick. She added: "I get to shoot guns and actually kill people. Having played these people who were like, 'I'm for my community and protecting the greater good.' Trepp is like, 'Nah, it's about me'." "It's a great character, to be able to relish in that self-preservation. It's also cast Simone Missick, who played Detective Misty Knight in Netflix's Luke Cage, and Dina Shihabi, who appeared in Daredevil as Neda Kazemi.Ĭhatting to Deciderabout her brand new role, Missick said: "I had so much fun playing that woman, I would say, equal to, if not more as Misty Knight. Mackie isn't the only Marvel star that the show has added for its second season. That's the possibility when people can change bodies."ĭetractors who criticised the first season for focusing on a white lead will hopefully see their concerns addressed now that Kinnaman has left the show. Joel Kinnaman was very supportive of his recasting, saying: "That was always the intention of the show, and I thought that that was a very cool concept, that the character would continue, but a new actor would play him for each season."Īnd Kinnaman feels the show could go even further: "I wouldn't be surprised if in another season, we see a woman playing the same character. Which leads us to what actually is going on with the second season. There are six types of turnover rates, these include: Inventory turnover rate It can also indicate how a company how often the company is paying off its obligations. Margin Accounts: How to Invest Responsibly Types of turnover ratios and how to calculate themĪ turnover rate can point out how well a company is leveraging its equities. How does the fund's turnover rate differ from similar investment strategies? Have the overall goals of the fund changed significantly? There are a few questions about how turnover rates can help investors to make sound investment decisions. If many funds following an index have turnover rates around 15%, and one fund finished with 45% turnover in one year, that's a sign that investors can use to investigate further. If a turnover rate is substantially different from comparable funds, that may indicate the fund is not performing optimally. For example, a conservative-minded investor may target funds with turnover rates of under 40%. They can also act as quick ways to signal their risk profile for investors with different appetites for risk. Turnover rates can be useful to measure how a certain fund's turnover rate compares with similar investment strategies. The turnover rate of any fund or investment vehicle is often not the only factor for buying or selling investments. Related: How to Write an Investment Banking Resume (With Template) How can you interpret turnover rates? These types of funds usually invest in companies that they project to grow faster than other small-cap stocks. Small-cap growth stock funds can sometimes experience higher turnover than a cheap stock fund. A high turnover rate may suggest an intention to profit by timing the market profitably. For example, an index fund can have a low turnover rate because it usually replicates a particular index, and companies normally fix their portfolios in indexes. For example, a fund focused on bonds usually increases turnover because day-trading is an important part of bond investments.Īctive mutual funds with a decreased turnover rate can show an investment strategy focused on holding the investment for long periods. The higher the turnover in a fund, the more likely it is to produce short-term capital gains, which the federal government can tax at an investor's regular income rate. High costs can cause a fund's return to waver. There are a few variables that high and low turnover rates can indicate, which include: Higher and lower turnover ratesįrequent turnover can produce high costs for the mutual fund or investment vehicle because of the payment of commissions when buying and selling stocks. High and low turnover rates aren't reliable indicators of how a fund performs over a set period. By itself, the turnover rate may present little inherent value. Turnover rates can change depending on several circumstances and situations, such as the type of fund, the investment goal, and the style of the investor. This is not always the case, as it doesn't necessarily mean that the company has replaced 100% of the holdings. If a portfolio or fund's turnover rate surpasses 100%, that usually indicates that most of the holdings are replenishing. This means they might have a turnover rate of more than 100%. Not all investment funds hold their investments for more than a year. The company might have a turnover rate of 75%. A simple example of a turnover rate may be a company that buys 800 stocks and replaces 600 of them. For some companies and organizations, this can be the calendar year or any other 12-month period that denotes the fiscal year. Turnover ratios are the percentage of a portfolio's equities that a firm replenished in a fiscal period. In this article, we define what turnover rates are, discuss why they're important, explore types of turnover rates, and review some examples. Understanding turnover rates can be essential and an advantage for anyone wanting to enter the financial industry. The turnover rate is the percentage of a portfolio's holdings that shifted or needed replenishing in a fiscal year. Turnover ratios, also called turnover rates, are a critical component in understanding how to operate a financial portfolio successfully. Remember: Montgomery Ward shut its doors in 2001, but three years later returned as an online seller and now, nearly two decades later, it continues in business. And no doubt some of these will come back to life. Nameplates like Bon Ton and Things Remembered have been bought by investors who are talking the talk of Franken-brands. That’s a long time in a retailing world where loyalties are short and the competition is fierce.Īnd there’s plenty more where that came from. While TRU is certainly one of the most endearing brands to kids and parents alike, it will have been out of the marketplace for close to two years if and when it comes back. In the meantime, the owners of the Toys 'R' Us brands has said it will be back in physical retailing for Christmas, but again, details are scarce and new stores might in fact be departments within existing locations of other retailers. If it sounds like an odd fit that may be because it is. They say they will work to combine that store’s quirky mix of home décor and furniture merchandise with its existing business, which is mostly sales of furniture and appliances through a club format. The new Z Gallerie owners have a different problem, but the same challenges. With about 120 store-building days left until the Christmas shopping season really begins, it’s unlikely it will be able to recapture the look and feel-much less the scale-of what Gump’s once was. Though it doesn’t appear it will be the legendary location just off Union Square in San Francisco that was the retailer’s last home. The new owners of Gump’s, for instance, have said they will have a store up and running in time for the holidays. Shoppers may click on a familiar name when they see it pop up online, but after a cursory -and often nostalgic-look they move on and head for Amazon or Walmart or Wayfair or any of the e-commerce sellers they feel most comfortable with.Īnd the problems can really set in when new brand owners decide they will also open physical stores. Often these reincarnated retail names are slapped on generic websites that have little if any connection with what the store sold in its previous incarnation. The problem sets in when that’s the entire business plan. It’s a perfect storm for brand owners, who have often purchased the intellectual assets on the cheap and have very little to lose by giving it a go. Dine beside Paolozzi’s gigantic Vulcan sculpture and treat yourself to fresh, seasonal Italian inspired dishes with a Scottish twist. The other factor, of course, is the internet, which allows brands to be reborn online at minimal cost and with a timetable that could never be matched if physical stores were involved. It doesn't appear that I can access anything on the 192.168.2.0/24 subnet when my desktop is connected to the gateway? Internet works and everything, and I have a 192.168.1.x IP address (instead of 192.168.2.x I had). I would then like to plug my computer in to the gateway directly so all of my current wifi devices would still be on 192.168.2.0/24, but my desktop would be on 192.168.1.0/24. I would like to move my router to another room and connect it to the gateway with a long ethernet cord. My personal computer is hardwired to my router and can access both subnets (at least, I can get to 192.168.1.254 for the gateway UI, there is nothing else on this subnet to really check). I have my AT&T router/gateway controlling the subnet 192.168.1.0/24 and my personal router 192.168.2.0/24. Modifications to nucleotide 34 are thought to promote correct pairing to codon position 3, especially important for wobble decoding ( Agris et al. Modifications to 34 and 37 are important for balance of accuracy, flexibility, and efficiency of translation by controlling the thermodynamic and spatial limits of codon–anticodon pairing in the ribosome ( Vare et al. 2018), with wobble base 34 being most diverse. The anticodon loop (ACL) which spans positions 32–38 is most variably modified due to positions 34 and 37 ( Han and Phizicky 2018 Han et al. Several tRNAs carry t 6A37, while others are modified with either N 6-isopentenyladenosine-37 (i 6A37), a methyl addition on N 1 of G (m 1G37), or after deamination of adenosine to inosine to form m 1I37, others remain unmodified, and tRNAs Phe carry wybutosine (yW37) whose synthesis requires sequential enzymatic activities ( Lorenz et al. A relevant example is the diversity at position 37, 3′ to the anticodon. TRNA modifications comprise a wide range of chemical complexity. Because it is applicable to modifications that share a certain physiochemical characteristic, we will first provide a general review of this aspect of the method to aid understanding and its practical use. This paper reviews a method that can do so for a subset of common modifications. Sequence-specific detection of the presence or absence of modifications on specific tRNAs can be helpful in assessing the extent of suspected or actual TME dysfunction ( Abbott et al. Inborn errors of tRNA hypomodification lead to numerous pathological conditions of varying severity ( Chujo and Tomizawa 2021 Suzuki 2021). Some mt-tRNA modifications are not found on cy-tRNAs and vice versa ( Suzuki et al. Each of the 22-human mitochondrial (mt) tRNAs carry three to nine modifications ( Suzuki et al. Each of the ∼45 major cy-tRNA species has unique identity with a distinct combination of modified nucleotides. Human cytoplasmic (cy) tRNAs carry as many as 17 modified nucleotides, with an average of 13 per tRNA ( Pan 2018). Finally, we include a calculator tool for matching probe and hybridization conditions.Īmong all RNA species, the tRNAs are the most extensive post-transcriptionally modified both in density (% modified nucleotides) and diversity (different modifications), collectively carrying >100 modified nucleotides (nt) ( Vare et al. This is followed by data that demonstrate quantitative validation of PHAM using a TME deletion control, and that nearby modifications can falsely alter the calculated apparent modification efficiency. We provide an overview of the method and illustrate benefits of the improved conditions. Here we document these for some tRNAs and probes and illustrate principles and practices for improved reliability and uniformity in performance. Yet, over the years we have observed idiosyncratic inconsistency and variability in the assay. This positive hybridization in the absence of modification (PHAM) assay has proven useful for i 6A37, t 6A37, m 3C32, and m 2,2G26 in multiple laboratories. The signal of this probe is then normalized by a second probe elsewhere on the same tRNA. The assay method depends on differential annealing efficiency of a DNA-oligo probe to the modified versus unmodified tRNA. Our laboratory developed a northern blot method that can quantify relative levels of base modifications on multiple specific tRNAs ∼10 yr ago, which has been used to characterize four different TME deficiencies and is likely further extendable. Easily accessible methods to detect tRNA hypomodifications can facilitate progress in advancing such molecular studies. Many tRNA modifications are linked to altered gene expression, and deficiencies due to mutations in tRNA modification enzymes (TMEs) are responsible for numerous diseases. The 22 mitochondrial and ∼45 cytosolic tRNAs in human cells contain several dozen different post-transcriptional modified nucleotides such that each carries a unique constellation that complements its function. The first was the in-person half marathon on June 25th. As its name implies, the challenge features three different runs. In 2023 the kids’ run cost $30 regardless of whether you wished to run at the in-person event or virtually at another time in June.Įxperienced runners who are up for a more difficult task could compete in the Threepeat Challenge in 2023. As the time of writing, details about this past year’s route were to be confirmed. Meanwhile, kids ages 6 to 12 can run alone. Kids ages 5 and under are encouraged to run with an adult. It’s a one kilometre run that includes a finisher’s medal, T-shirt and a running bib. The Scotiabank event also offers a run for kids between the ages of 2 and 12. The cost is the same whether you wish to participate in the virtual run or in-person event. Registration fees for the five-kilometre run cost $60 each. Participants run mostly along the seawall in west Vancouver before looping back the way they came. It takes place in and around Stanley Park, finishing near Second Beach. This shorter version begins and ends at the Museum of Vancouver. In addition to the half marathon, the Scotiabank event includes a five-kilometre run. We expect registration prices to be comparable for the event in 2024. The virtual version of the half marathon, on the other hand, cost $60 each. The route goes all the way to Stanley Park with a shorter section at UBC.Īs of end of May 2023, registration for the in-person half marathon cost $105 per person. The race then finishes in front of the Museum of Vancouver. The route loops around UBC before going along Point Grey and past Kitsilano Beach towards Vanier Park. The Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon begins at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Runners looking to challenge themselves even more can register for the Threepeat Challenge. The event was also run virtually in 2023 from June 1st to 30th. The marathon also has a shorter five-kilometre version which takes place on the same day around Stanley Park, as well as an even shorter one kilometre run for kids. To learn about the half marathon in June, continue reading.Īttracting thousands of runners and spectators, this race is one of the city’s largest and most popular running events of the year. To learn about the above and other similar events, see our article about Vancouver Running Races. There is also the Rubber Ducky Race (in October) and both the Boundary Bay Marathon and Vancouver Historic Half (in November). Other marathon and half marathon runs in the Vancouver region also include the Vancouver Chilly Chase (in January), Fort Langley Historic Half (in February) and Shamrock ‘n Race (in March). There is also the Longest Day Road Race which is a fundraising event benefitting the Greater Vancouver Food Bank in June. In addition to the Scotiabank event, other Lower Mainland runs in late spring and summer include the Big Easter Run and Vancouver Sun Run (in April), BMO Marathon (in May) and Big Superhero Run (in August), among many others. The date for 2024’s run is likely to be June 30th. Beginning at UBC and finishing at Stanley Park, the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon takes place on the last Sunday in June. They may also go back to Planet 4546B and develop a new story there, but there’s no way to be sure. The previous game, Below Zero, ended with Robin and Al-An arriving at the Architect’s homeworld, so they may choose to explore that. With the developers not sharing many details, there’s still a shroud of mystery surrounding Subnautica 3’s plot. You might also see Subnautica 3 way earlier with an early-access version like past games, yet it’s unclear when it’ll be released. It may come out way later because the developers are reworking the game from scratch with Unreal Engine 5 instead of Unity. If we were to speculate, Subnautica 3 might be released in 2024 since the previous games were fully released three years from each other. While the game is still in the early stages of development, you can rest easy knowing that Subnautica 3 will happen. This includes positions like Lead Programmer, Senior Narrative Designer, Senior 3D Character Artist, and other integral roles. In 2022, Unknown Worlds posted several job vacancies for the next game in the Subnautica universe. However, Unknown Worlds has already posted job listings that confirm they’re working on a third Subnautica game. Yet, it might still take a while before you can return to the waters of Subnautica. Thankfully, there are signs that Subnautica 3 is already under development at Unknown Worlds. The game was soon followed by Subnautica: Below Zero, and now fans are highly anticipating a third installment. It’s still in Steam Early Access, but if you liked this game, go and throw some money at the developers by buying Below Zero and trying it out for yourself! Aw, look at him! He just wants a hug!Īs for me, I’ll be back with a review of Subnautica: Below Zero once the full version comes out.Who can forget the sheer dread when exploring Subnautica’s depths for the first time? Unknown Worlds created a survival game with a perfect mix of horror and story, from fleeing for your life from a Reaper Leviathan to curing an entire planet of a deadly disease. And best of all, there’s even a sequel out called Subnautica: Below Zero. What’s not to like about this game? If you’re a fan of survival games, open world exploration games, underwater games, sci-fi games, or even funny games you can go no wrong with Subnautica. You can play with it, feed it mysteriously appearing biscuits, and perform magic tricks for it to boot! I shall name him Squishy. It looks like someone stuck a pug on top of an octopus, but it is surprisingly adorable. You can build as many underwater condominiums as you want without some pesky zoning officials complaining about building regulations! A fine example of a Subnautica-brand multistory underwater apartment with attached utilities, all yours for free! (Some assembly required, will need to provide own building materials and construction crew) Pets!Īnd if those weren’t enough, Subnautica even allows you to have underwater fish buddies! Well, one buddy specifically. God rays galore! More god rays! Nice change of pace from the god rays, eh? Build!īest of all, you can not only stare at the gorgeous scenery, you can also build on them! When you’re the only human on an alien planet, everywhere is free real estate. The developers obviously have put a lot of effort into making eye candy out of the ocean around you. The scenery of Subnautica is just gorgeous, and will often make you forget that you have to breathe. If you can survive the attacks of alien Jaws though, you’ll find an alien oceanscape that’s worth taking photos of. Sammy the Safety Reaper telling you that you are not safe. Much bigger fish that look at a little human like you, and see a tasty bite-sized snack up for grabs. But included in that mix are bigger fish. The oceans of Subnautica are full of fish: small fish, tasty fish, and cute fish. It won’t just be your own survival needs to have to watch out for. It’s a good thing those alien fish can stick to your hand, eh? This little guy here is your best source of water at the start. Which isn’t much, and now you have to start gathering food, water, and resources to help you not die. You’re very quickly and violently not on a spaceship anymore, and now you’re stuck floating on an alien ocean with nothing but your escape pod and the little stuff that’s in it. The basic premise of the story is that you were on a spaceship, with an emphasis on were. It was developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, and was officially released on Januafter over 3 years spent in Early Access on Steam. Subnautica is an open world underwater survival action-adventure game. |
